Don't You Forget About Me by Cecily von Ziegesar Review

The last book, minus the prequel and the time jump sequel. We are finally going to know how the last of the summer went before everyone goes off to college…or doesn’t. I gotta say this summer has dragged on forever and I’m kind of glad it is over.

Now…where to begin?

I think back with Dan actually, I know I like to talk about Blair but we will get to her later. Dan has been annoying me so much again. Sure his gay thing was kind of funny in the last book, but now? I’m over it.

He is still so confused in this book as to what he is and even though he told everyone he was gay…he doesn’t really feel it. But he thinks he should be since apparently everyone in his life kind of suspected that he was. So in typical Dan fashion he just kind of goes with it. Until he once again realises that he should be with Vanessa – because you know that’s how these things go. Dan gets with Vanessa, he hates it and breaks up with her, he dates someone else (regardless of gender I guess), and then realises Vanessa is the one. Honestly. Almost as worse as Nate Archibald, but not quite…

So yeah Dan isn’t gay. What a revelation. Him and Vanessa get back together. I’m over it. Next. I mean I’m still surprised he is not all caught up in Serena again like he was in the TV show, but at the same time I was kind of relieved that didn’t have their on-again off-again thing. Except he did have that just with Vanessa. I don’t know. At least him and Vanessa are similar, whereas he and Serena aren’t so like it does make more sense for him to be with her…

Speaking of Vanessa – her sister is getting married! Random but sure why not. I was not really sure where this whole wedding thing was going but turns out it wasn’t a big deal it was just something to happen in Vanessa’s life. Cool.

Vanessa is struggling with her feelings with Dan (again) because he says he’s gay and she’s trying to respect that but at the same time she wants to be with him. And they both are reading each other’s actions, interpreting them wrong and decide not to talk to each other when the easiest solution would be to just talk? Honestly rolling my eyes at them every time, if they were good friends then they should be able to talk about things in the first place but I guess that’s not a thing? I suppose as artists they should just be able to interpret their feelings by looking at one another…but no such luck.

Also in this book Vanessa randomly decides to get a makeover from Blair which is kind of cute. I do wish they had amped up their friendship on the TV show because it is unlikely but I did like it. OMG I just remembered they roomed together in NYU on the TV show so technically that is the same as the book…but that being said they never became friends on the show. Oh well.

Side note: Jenny came back in the end but nothing really important came of it. I missed her being around but I suppose she has no use to scheme or anything when she’s going to boarding school like she wanted to reinvent herself like Serena did. Plus summering in Europe is the best way to come back to school with an air of mystery. So yay for Little J.

Moving onto the Blair, Nate, Serena love triangle…I’m just gonna put it out there – I hated this. So much. I don’t even know why because this did kind of happen in the TV show and like it has happened in the book before but like…some part of me thought we were done with it. So the fact it has come up like this again and also so strongly…I can’t. I mean I said before I thought Serena had only loved Nate as a friend and we were good with that – but I guess not?

So Blair and Nate come back from their month long boat trip and things are great, until Nate finally tells her he is not going to Yale and Blair is angry with him for ruining her dreams. Hey – we have not heard about her wanting to live her best Audrey Hepburn life in a while…must be the ghost writer.

Anyway since Blair is mad at Nate he decides to turn to the only other person in Manhattan he seems to feel close with – Serena. Somehow they end up falling into bed together and everything is just perfect again. Serena tells Nate how she feels and he agrees – he does love Serena. I’m over here shaking my head because he literally stole Viagra because he couldn’t get it up for S a few books ago but sure…

Continuing on Serena’s movie (remember that thing) has its release date moved up so she has to do a press conference for it and this is where it is revealed that the director wants to film a sequel with our leading lady S of course. This is where Serena thinks that maybe Yale isn’t for her and she should defer for a year so she can do some acting. Because let’s be real – Serena doesn’t plan for the future. She just goes with the flow and is up for anything.

Looks like Nate will also end up staying in the city next year because he bailed on his summer job with Coach and so will have to repeat his senior year of high school. Ouch. Though with this news, S thinks it makes sense to stay in the city so that she can go on and have a real relationship with Nate. And N, thinking he can have his cake and eat it too thinks maybe staying in the city wouldn’t be too bad with S around. He could see her on the weekdays and be with B in Yale on weekends. Sneaky.

Too bad for Blair though who is planning to do everything she can to keep Nate with her and away from Serena and the city. She doesn’t know they slept together but it is only a matter of time before that comes out right? B has these visions of Nate and her being together in New Haven living the practically-married life she had always imagined for them. Nate can just travel up and down from Yale to school everyday – easy.

Things all come to a head at B’s going away party held at the MET. We find out that B got her dad to have a word with Yale and now Nate can go with her to New Haven and they can live the perfect life. Too bad Serena is planning on breaking B’s heart because her and Nate are finally going to be together like they’ve always wanted…with Nate Archibald in the middle stoned and thinking what’s a guy to do? He has to choose.

Nate’s decision is to not choose either of them at all. He realises that he has always been there with both of them, and coming between both of them that maybe he should just remove himself from the picture entirely.

And so with that we have B and S, friends once more. B headed off to Yale, S going on to persue her acting, Vanessa in NYU going back to filmmaking an Dan headed off to whatever college he decided on…

I’m not going to lie the ending is kind of cute, I never saw it ending badly, everyone was going to have a good ending. But at the same time it bugs me a little bit that Nate just copped out of a decision but it makes sense for him because he’s Nate.

As for S and B, well I didn’t expect either of them to be too mad at the other one for long because they have always been the bestest of friends. Nothing can come between them, even Nate though he tries and sometimes succeeds.

Side note: love that they are setting up for the spin-off books with the mention of the Carlyles – I don’t think I will read those. But if I ever do it will probably be a while before I get to them, I am a little bit excited to step away from this world of the Upper East Side.

I feel like I purposely have disliked the last few books because they were ghost written. I mean part of it is that even though it is mostly the same style as the novels there is a slight difference and I feel like I felt it. Or maybe I’m just being dramatic lol. But at least the next couple books are written by the actual author, so let’s see if we can end it on a high note.

You know you love me,

Day6 In London!

After finding out I missed Day6 last year I made sure it wasn’t going to happen again.

I have listened to Day6 since I found out they were coming to KCon NY 2016. Let’s set the backstory.

So I was going to KCon with my friend Jasmine but I was kind of new to KPop at the time. I knew of Girls’ Generation and a couple of other people but I wasn’t super into it which meant I had no idea who anyone coming to KCon was. I felt like such a fraud so I had to do some research and listen to some music.

With Day6, it was amazing, literally there was not a single Day6 song that I didn’t like. I don’t know what it is about them but their music is always a bop. So I knew I would enjoy them.

That was the first time I ever saw them live and I thought it was great. All of KCon was amazing.

Now with lots of KPop idols coming over to the UK on world tours, I thought I would keep a lookout for when someone I liked was coming over.

I’m pretty sure I only found out about Day6 in London last year in February? I am still not the biggest KPop stan so I don’t keep up all the time with news and everything but I was so sad that I missed them. Like I said, I’ve never not liked a song from them so I know a concert of theirs was gonna be insane.

I don’t really know how to describe the experience, it was the first time I was going to a standing concert and I wanted to be near the front because, if this was the only time I was going to stand at a concert, I wanted to be close. So we spent most of the day queuing haha.

I thought queuing was going to suck, just me and my brother standing in the cold for hours. Which it partly was. But then, everyone around us in line was pretty friendly so we made some friends which made the time pass quicker because you had new people to talk to and fangirl over Day6 with.

I’ve never been a part of anything like it before – sure I was at KCon but because we were seated, we didn’t line up until it was time for doors to open. But being surrounded by all these people that love the same thing that you do, and understand you – it’s so communal. Like everyone is nice and supportive and people are handing out cute freebies and everything it’s great.

That’s not to say there isn’t a bad side to KPop fans like there are any fandoms but on concert days it’s super positive and fun.

When we finally got into the venue the energy was incredible. I just remember feeling kind of in shock, like Day6 were right in front of me? Singing the songs that I had been listening to for years? It was crazy.

I’ve been to other concerts before but this one was different. I just felt differently about it.

I had the best time and will definitely be going to their next tour if/when they come back. I just really felt in the moment with them, jumping around and having a blast. It was great.

Then after the show was the hi touch and I was super nervous about it. I mean it’s always nerve-wracking meeting your faves in real life.

It kind of passed in a blur the things I remember the most were Young K looking directly into my soul, I swear he caught me off guard so much. I also remember feeling Sungjin’s presence as a leader, I don’t know if that makes sense but it just sort of radiated off him up close. And then Jae saying “thank you for coming out tonight” – I know he was saying similar things to everyone but something about it to me stuck. I wish I could remember more of my time with Wonpil and Dowoon but it kind of passed me by quickly. I hope if I get the chance to do another hi touch with them I get to spend more time remembering the other members.

Then just like that it was over…and I’ve been thrown back into my fangirl days but only this time it’s about Day6. I’m pretty sure the last time I fully fangirled over something like this it was Twilight haha I thought I had kind of moved on from the fangirl part of my life but I guess not.

I’m now constantly on Twitter and reading people’s tweets about the band and always wanting news on what they are up to next. I definitely think I’m in love with them, and I’m not mad about it.

And so yeah that’s where I’ll leave this little post. It’s been 2 weeks since the concert and I’m still not fully over it. If you want to know more about my trip to London and the concert you can check out my vlog below. (It was originally going to be like 3 videos but I just ended up editing it into a huge 40 minute one haha.)

American Royals by Katharine McGee Review

A full book review on something not Gossip Girl? I’m surprised too.

So this is American Royals, which might as well be Gossip Girl if they were royalty haha. In case you couldn’t tell I do love a good bit of drama in my books.

This one took me a while to get into though because I was thrown in the deep end with like six characters I didn’t know and new point of view’s every chapter so a girl needed a minute to be like – who is that? Once we got that down things became a lot easier.

So I’m going to break it down for you real quick here before we dive in haha:

  • Beatrice: The first in line for the throne
  • Sam: Beatrice’s younger sister
  • Jeff: Sam’s twin brother
  • Nina: Sam’s best friend who has a crush on Jeff
  • Daphne: Used to date Jeff, wants to be a royal
  • Connor: Beatrice’s security detail but also is in love with her
  • Teddy: Beatrice’s potential husband but has feelings for Sam

Okay so they are the main players, even from my bullet points I feel like you can tell a lot from them haha.

Let’s start with Beatrice, the first in line for the throne. Always prim and proper and does the right thing…until she falls in love with her bodyguard. Well, I saw this coming a mile away with the way the story was written. You just knew Connor was in love with her and it was only a matter of time before she fell too. I ship it.

Sadly though they could never be together, not when Beatrice is up to be Queen. Not only that but the first Queen ever. Because they had a rule that the successor was always meant to be male because you know…that’s always a thing.

Also it’s super weird to read about if America had royalty. Like adjusting to this, me forgetting it’s not set in England and isn’t about the British haha. But it’s good, better to keep it fictional. I also find it fun how I’m reading about American royal drama when currently there’s real British royal drama with Prince Harry and Meghan but like we didn’t come here to talk about that. I just felt the need to say it was a weird coincidence I would read about this when actual royalty is getting so much attention right now.

Anyway yeah so Beatrice is gonna be Queen and it’s going to happen sooner than she thought because the King has stage four cancer. Not good. Plus not only that but she is being pressured into finding a husband because it would make it easier for America to adjust to the idea of a Queen if she had a King. Cue: Teddy.

Teddy is introduced at the ball and he is the only one of Beatrice’s potential suitors that she can really tolerate. They both come from a mutual place of understanding when it comes to what is expected of them making them the perfect couple. At least it would appear that way.

Before Beatrice had met Teddy he had actually run into Sam first and they had a moment together, kissed and everything. So scandalous. Obviously Sam wasn’t too thrilled to find out about Beatrice and Teddy but we will get to that.

Beatrice actually isn’t too thrilled about her relationship with Teddy either as she and her bodyguard Connor have admitted their feelings for one another and are sneaking around. Keeping everything pretty PG though.

Next thing you know, Beatrice has run out of time and has proposed to Teddy. This is obviously not the news Connor expected to hear and so he proposes to Beatrice right after her announcement. I was expecting her to go with her heart and accept Connor’s proposal but she declines! She accepts Connor’s resignation and continues on with her planning of the wedding.

Honestly, props to Beatrice for wanting to serve her country, but at the same time part of me wonders if things begin to fall apart once the actual wedding day arrives…

Moving onto Sam, who is always feeling invisible and like the “spare” child. She is next in line to the throne and she feels like that’s all people see her as. She is jealous of all the attention that is brought down on Beatrice but does not understand the pressure her sister is under.

However, the two do end up having a cute heart to heart moment in the kitchen so I think they’re relationship is on the mend.

Sam is also BFF’s with Nina who she has known since she was little. Nina is not a royal but her mother worked for them so she grew up basically as part of the family. However now that Nina is in uni she tends to keep her relationship with Sam on the DL so no one knows.

This was all working well for Nina until she starts dating Jeff, Sam’s brother. I saw it coming from the way the book is written – it tries to act like there was all this drama going on between Jeff, his ex – Daphne, and Nina but I clocked that Nina totally hooked up with Jeff ASAP – you know I love the drama.

Anyway Nina starts dating Jeff in secret and it is going well until the press finds out about them and everyone starts calling Nina a social-climbing gold-digger. All this comes down on her courtesy of Daphne, Jeff’s ex.

After Nina ignores Jeff for a couple weeks he decides to go and talk to her and they believe they can make it work. For about five minutes. Nina is very insecure about her relationship with Jeff so when Daphne talks to her and explains she will never fit in, well that seems to be the end of her and Jeff.

I was surprised that Nina gave up on Jeff again so quickly but it really annoyed me when he didn’t believe Nina about Daphne being the one to leak photos to the press etc. Then again Jeff is kind of an idiot haha. I feel like he doesn’t want to put effort into his relationship to make it work and maybe being with Daphne would be easier for him…

Speaking of Daphne. I do kind of love her character. She was dating Jeff until he dumped her and now she is doing everything to get him back. She has been working her whole life to become a royal and it is a lot of pressure. I also keep forgetting how young she is because honestly she sounds like she’s 23 but she’s only like 18.

As determined as Daphne is to be an adult, she doesn’t have together all the time. Even though she is trying to get back with Jefferson she can’t deny she may have real feelings for his best friend Ethan.

Ethan can see right through Daphne and her schemes and she really enjoys the fact that there is someone out there that can see the real her. It’s only a matter of time before her facade slips in front of Jefferson and he finds out who she really is. At least I hope so.

Not to mention Daphne is so ruthless that she DRUGGED her own best friend to stop her from spilling the tea about her and Ethan to Jefferson. That is why her friend is in a coma. Like damn. I knew she did something, that was obvious but who knew it was this, I thought she just pushed the girl down the stairs haha.

Can’t wait ’til Himari comes out of that coma girl.

Anyway, everything comes to a head at the big engagement party for Teddy and Beatrice. This is when Beatrice realises that she cannot go through with this engagement and wants to call of the wedding. Hallelujah, she has come to her senses.

Connor finds Beatrice at the engagement party and Beatrice realises that he is the one she should be with. He agrees to come back and work for Beatrice but she knows that could never be enough. So she makes plans to tell her father after the party.

Sadly, when Beatrice tells her father he is not in support of it. Not surprising but at the same time I thought he might have just stood by his daughter anyway. The news comes as such a shock to him that he ends up having a heart attack. Eeek. Though this isn’t the first time someone has used shocking news to bring on a heart attack to someone in a book/movie/TV show.

So the King is rushed to the hospital and everyone in the state has put their own life on hold so they can monitor the King’s. Beatrice and her family are in the hospital and no one knows about Beatrice calling off the engagement. She couldn’t call it off now that the King is in the hospital.

Beatrice manages to have a few last words with her father but he does not get a chance to tell her about what he thinks about Teddy and Connor. Though Beatrice comes to her own conclusions about that, she needs to stay with Teddy in order to be a good Queen. Whatever her and Connor have will be torn apart by the media and the people thinking he is not good enough for her.

Too bad we will never know what he really thought. As the family are outside accepting well-wishes and gifts from the people outside the hospital, they receive news that the King has passed away.

This is when the whole nation turns to bow to Beatrice, their new Queen.

And I am left over here with a bunch of questions. I’m glad there will be a second book but apparently it will not be out until Autumn so I have a lot of waiting to do.

I want to know what Beatrice will decide about Connor and Teddy. I mean I guess it is kind of made clear what will happen. She will go through with her wedding but still see Connor on the side and it’ll probably be a hot mess. Though she could just marry Connor anyway and perhaps give the title up to Samantha?

It would make sense if Samantha became Queen, especially with Teddy on her side. Sure it is going to be super tacky to just take your sister’s place with her fiance and everything but like…it’ll be fine. Though I’m not sure if Sam would really want to be Queen. So we see what happens.

There there is the whole Daphne/Nina/Jeff situation. Nina saw Daphne at the hospital with Jeff and decided it was too much to handle for her so she left without anyone seeing her. I hope that she can either move on from Jeff or find someway to expose Daphne and get her man back.

As for Daphne, well she is on cloud nine and is surprised things are working out so well for her. After waking up to the news about the King, she wasted no time going to the hospital to console Jefferson. If only he knew who she woke up next to…

I imagine the truth will come out about Daphne soon, whether it comes from Himari if she wakes up from her coma, Ethan the angry lover or Nina the jealous ex. The world will find out the tea. Or at least Jeff will.

So that is where I am going to leave it. I definitely did not expect this series to draw me in like it has but now I want to know what happens next. I think Beatrice will make an amazing Queen but I know that there will be issues no matter who stands beside her as her King consort.

Not to mention that whatever she chooses will change Sam’s fate also, if she isn’t with Teddy then Sam can be, but if not then Sam has to watch them be a happy couple to the world…

So yeah, lots of questions and wondering. It’s safe to say I’ll be picking up the sequel whenever I get the chance. In the meantime it is time to venture back to the Upper East Side, I think I only have like four books left to read so let’s get to it, shall we?

2019!

Another year has gone by and it is time for me to once again reflect on it. I seriously wanted to get this blog post done before the new year but I spent a lot of time just chilling and seeing friends and family etc I had no time – plus a little bit of laziness. But we are doing it now!

Honestly when I think back on 2019 it’s pretty much a blur, the first half of the year was spent stressing out just trying to get through final year of uni (and watching too much Grey’s Anatomy), then there was graduation and my last official summer holiday before starting work (where I read a lot of books) and then finally the end of the year where I started working and living with my boyfriend and adjusting to all the Xbox he plays. And that is my year in a nutshell.

If that was all I had to write for this blog post that would be great but I do like to go through month by month to just see how much I’ve actually done. Plus luckily for me, this year I have a full planner which will tell me week by week what I’ve been doing lol.

So let’s start in January shall we?

I rang in the year with my boyfriend, which has been something I’ve been doing the past few years. I can’t remember much about the night but I assume it was good. We have been together for almost four years now and I think it’s safe to say we are pretty solid, but I’m not about to plan a wedding yet haha.

Also in January we started back at uni and of course that is stressful. I literally don’t remember anything about uni and I think it’s because I might have blocked out how stressful it was. Final year compared to the rest of my university experience was no joke. It was tough and I definitely wasn’t as organised as I should have been.

One thing I started doing to ease the stress a bit was binge-watch Grey’s Anatomy. I started in January and just kept going the whole way through the year and the uni semester until I had finished all 15 seasons. I never thought I would make it the whole way but I’m proud I did.

I had my first drag show of the year in January, it’s hard to believe because it feels so long ago. I also celebrated one year of taking pole classes! It’s crazy that I’ve stuck with it for so long, I for sure thought that I was going to quit somewhere along the line but now it’s been two years, and it’s amazing. So I don’t see myself giving it up anytime soon. I also had another Neopets account for like five minutes so that didn’t last long.

In February, I don’t really think I got up to much, I had another drag show and obviously more uni work, my boyfriend and I didn’t even really celebrate Valentine’s Day because I had pole class haha. So I guess it was a quiet month.

In March I had my first outing with the pole class for drinks to celebrate our one year anniversary of pole. We are all very busy outside of class so it was hard to find a day when we were all free. It was super fun and it was nice to see everyone outside of class and fully clothed lol.

Also in March my friend Jasmine came for a visit which was great. I don’t see her much but I always enjoy when I get to see her. I enjoyed when we went out in March because I had bought knee-high boots for the occasion so all of us would be matching. Some say tacky, but we say stylish.

Other highlights in March were that I got a new phone, I was saying goodbye to my iPhone and hello to Android once more. I liked my stint in the iPhone world but am glad to have an Android phone again.

I also got my first ever Erin Condren planner and I was super excited about that because ever since stumbling upon the planner community I felt like it was the planner for me, plus I love sticker spreads. They have been fun to create over the last year. I’m not yet up to having a sticker spread for every week, I just keep it to special occasions but that could change in the next year lol.

In April, uni was beginning to wind down I had mostly finished classes but our dissertation deadline was looming, so there was a lot of work that needed to be done.

I also finally got to see Adore Delano perform live. She was one of the drag queens I had always wanted to see perform and she did not disappoint, I had a great time. I have a whole backstory as to how she was supposed to be the first drag queen I ever saw live but she cancelled that tour date haha but three years later I made it to see her and I’m not mad about it.

Towards the end of April we had another pole get together which was a great stress reliever, it was two days before my dissertation was due but I decided I definitely needed the night off. Plus, I knew I wasn’t going to pull off something miraculous towards the end, I had accepted that I had done most of the work and that I should just work on finishing my write up the last few days.

After handing in my dissertation I felt a lot of relief but sadly I couldn’t rest yet because I had exams in May. At this point I was starting to feel a little burnt out. But I had to push through to the very end, it wasn’t easy but revision was a little better than my disseration, mainly because I was just revising things I already learnt, rather than having to pull a whole project off from scratch.

After exams, it was finally time to start off my last summer ever. I spent most of the first couple weeks off, sleeping and playing Sims – typical behaviour of me really.

Then towards the end of May me and my brother decided to book last minute tickets to see BlackPink in Manchester. It was going to be my first KPop concert since KCon New York three years ago and I am so glad we decided to go. I only started listening to BlackPink music this year but it was amazing to see them live. It was a fun trip and surprisingly not as expensive as we thought it was going to be so it was totally worth it.

June can be summed up by three things: sleep, Sims and reading. I had gotten into reading again last year with the help of GoodReads and I wanted to continue reading on this year. But because of university I didn’t have much time to read but in June I ended up reading a lot. It seems I swapped out Grey’s Anatomy for a book series and I ended up reading the most books in a month I think I’ve ever read.

I also got back into making Sims YouTube videos, I didn’t make many videos on my main channel but I was playing Sims so much that it didn’t feel like too much of a stretch to make some videos as well.

Then at the end of June I celebrated my 22nd birthday. This time there was no Taylor Swift concert but I still got to spend the night with my friends and have fun.

The week after my birthday was graduation, I kind of knew what to expect as my boyfriend graduated the year before but this time it was my turn. It felt weird having to put on the graduation gown and everything but at the same time it felt right. Looking back it kind of seemed like the graduation scene in a movie, when you see your friends after getting your diplomas and everything. It was a big day and luckily I made it across the stage without falling so all was well.

July was spent in a similar fashion to June where I was playing Sims, reading and enjoying all the free time. I was going to start work at the end of the month so I had to make the most of it.

At the end of July I started my job, it is in the same place where I did my university placement so I wasn’t too worried about starting. However this time, I was joining as part of the graduate program and so had to go through some training first.

The training lasted a month and a half and I was stuck in the Hilton during the whole time. It was fine in the beginning but over time it got a little depressing because the room had no windows. At least I wasn’t alone, I met all the new graduates joining us and made some friends. We started going out every Friday for drinks after training and that was nice, it was good to get out of the Hilton and have some bonding time.

Outside of work, I was maintaining my reading and playing a bunch of Sims – are we sensing a theme of what I do with my free time?

In September, I finished my training and started work properly. I rejoined the team I was on during placement so luckily I had some kind of idea what was going on.

I was also settling into living with my boyfriend during September. It was a big step for us but at the same time I wasn’t too worried about it. He got his own place at the start of the year when I had been living at uni so when I finished uni he asked me to move in with him. Originally I wasn’t planning to, I thought I should live on my own for a bit but at the same time I did want to live with him.

And so we are still living together now. I did think it would be weird to live with him in the beginning, I guess because it’s different than living with a flatmate. Mainly because you share a bed and aren’t used to your significant other around all the time. But I think we’ve made it work quite well.

October was spent working, but also going out with my friends which was great, we only get together like once every few months or something but in October we saw each other quite frequently with Halloween and other things so that was fun.

For Halloween, we went to this Disney themed costume night and I had big plans for my costume but in reality it was just a dalmation cape haha. I wanted a cool wig to go with it but sadly the wig I ordered ended up being terrible. I think if I were to do something like that again I would definitely need one of those fancy drag queen wigs. If only I could afford it…

At the end of October I also went to Liverpool with my mum, sisters and my niece for my niece’s 16th birthday. This was our first ever kind of family vacation so I was nervous about how it might go but it was actually a good time. I got to spend time with the family and visit somewhere I’ve never been before, it might not be as exciting as going outside the UK but I still had a good time. You can find out more about it in the Liverpool blog post I made.

Then a couple of weeks later I went to London with my boyfriend to see Dear Evan Hansen – we had planned to do this before I had the trip with my family planned, it just happened they were close together haha. The time away with my boyfriend was great, even though we live together now it was still nice to have proper one on one time together. At the time we were both busy with work and other things so to have time off was nice.

Dear Evan Hansen was nothing short of amazing. I cried so much and I wasn’t expecting to haha. Again, if you want to know more about that trip you can check out my London blog post.

Since this has been the second year in a row my boyfriend and I have went to London for a West End show I wonder what we will go and see next…Whatever it is I will be sure to keep you posted. If you want to know more about my London trip then check out this blog post.

The rest of November was spent scrambling to get Christmas presents and also Christmas decorations. This was the first year where my boyfriend and I would have to get Christmas decorations of our own, and who knew they would be so expensive? At least now we have them we won’t have to buy them again.

I also decided to start playing the 100 Baby Challenge on the Sims because why not? I never really keep save games in the Sims but I figured with something like this, I can always go back to it. It’s actually kind of fun and it keeps you busy with all the Sims, normally I only ever have one Sim in my household so to always have eight is crazy haha.

In December we decorated our place and that was super cute, to see the whole place made up. Plus it had been a while since I had actually decorated for Christmas, the past few years I have been so busy that mum has just decorated the house on her own. So it was nice to be able to decorate again.

Also in December I enjoyed a lot of time just chilling out and spending time with friends and family. You know, the norm.

And so that brings us to the end of my 2019! I always say this but this has definitely been a crazy year for me. I’ve gone through a huge transition with leaving uni to join the life of a working adult and so far it’s going okay. I remember when I was writing about how nervous I was about leaving secondary school to go to uni but that doesn’t even compare to leaving uni and starting a job.

I guess I was lucky in that I kind of already knew what my job was going to be, but I think I’m still adjusting to everything. I mean this year, 2020, will be my first full year as a working girl. I won’t have long breaks off like I used to with uni because I only get a certain amount of days to take off a year. It will be weird. But at the same time I’ll have money to do things which is nice.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where 2020 will take me. I have no big plans for the year except probably dedicating my life to Animal Crossing: New Horizons (which I can’t believe I’m only mentioning right now omg). It was supposed to be released in 2019 but that didn’t happen so I’m counting down the days until it’s released!

So I hope the New Year has been treating you well so far, and if not well we still have another 11 and a half months to turn it around so let’s see where we end up.

Would I Lie To You? By Cecily von Ziegesar Review

New year, same book series. I have just finished the 10th book in the series and we only have three left…and one parody and then the spin offs haha but I think I’ll stick with the main series and then move on to other things.

So yeah, this book was…okay, though I was Googling to find out how many books I had left and it looks like the previous book, this one and the next one were all written by a ghostwriter. Which might explain why I am not enjoying them as much, something about them makes them less interesting than before.

I also tried to look up why they were ghostwritten but nothing really comes up when I search it so who knows. But that being said Cecily von Ziezegar does come back for the last two books which are a prequel and a sequel so we see what happens.

So yeah anyway this book. I don’t know what about it made it seem shorter than the others but it just was. Which meant the storylines were kind of weak.

Let’s start with Dan again because his story is kind of funny. So Dan is still working at his bookstore and ignoring Vanessa and all that but he makes friends with a new coworker who wants to hold a literary salon because ya know…books.

They selectively choose people to attend through an application process and the night arrives and Dan gets super drunk on absinthe and decides to make out with his new coworker Greg. He has a little freakout before just announcing to Jenny and himself that he is gay lol. Like okay Dan, why not. He goes through so many different phases in life why not let this be one of them.

I didn’t see this coming for him and honestly it’s kind of terrible. On the bright side he and Vanessa didn’t get back together for five minutes and break up again without saying words to each other.

Though that might have had something to do with Vanessa going off to the Hamptons because her babysitting job was taking her there. She lasted there about five minutes and then she realised she hated it and was lonely so she goes to a party in search of Blair and Serena, some friendly faces.

Only to discover the girls are nowhere to be found but it’s okay because she has become a fashion muse and ditches babysitting for that. Not really sure if she actually told anyone she was quitting or just never went back but yeah, that happened.

The fashion muse thing also only lasts for five minutes after Bailey Winter catches Vanessa in his sacred birdhouse and says she can’t film in there, however she did it anyway. Plus she felt kind of restricted in Bailey’s home and ended up just going back to the city, where she found out about Dan being gay possibly and that’s where we leave it for Vanessa. Wondering around aimlessly and not really sure what she’s doing – very much a mood.

Also side note we heard from Jenny a little bit in this book. She sent Dan some letters so at least we know she’s enjoying her summer.

Moving on down to Serena and Blair, they were Bailey Winter’s original muses and Bailey had hired fake European lookalikes to be the models for his campaign (no idea why he couldn’t use the real B and S but okay). Sadly the two could not get along with their lookalikes as B was convinced the fakes were up to something.

She got her revenge on them anyway in true Blair fashion. S just went along with it because she just wanted to have a fun carefree summer with her BFF. Though to be honest I they kept acting like these fake girls were up to something super sinister but all I know is they were just putting hair removal cream in shampoo which is, kind of tame and also boring.

Anyway, once the girls were done with their dopplegangers, they fled and ran into everyone’s favourite stoner Nate Archibald who happened to live next door.

Nate was still working for the Coach, but he was out of town and Nate was being harrassed by his wife, so it was a no brainer for him to hit the road once B and S showed up.

The three of them planned to go to the city and go sailing on the Archibald family boat but once getting to the city they find that Nate’s dad has taken the boat elsewhere.

While crashing at Serena’s apartment, S realises something weird is going on with Nate and Blair. Of course something is going on between them because there’s always something.

Basically Nate realises he just really wants to be with Blair because he believes their soulmates. Blair also wouldn’t hate being back with Nate either. And Serena is left feeling like a third wheel.

Worse than that, it’s Serena’s birthday. So before the gang hit the road on the search for the Archibald boat they stop to visit Serena’s brother Erik who has thrown a party for S’s birthday. Cute.

Sadly S does not enjoy a party that consists of all Erik’s friends and like six girls. Bummer. Not to mention she saw Blair and Nate on the stairs and Nate confessed he finally loved Blair. Now Serena is feeling super left out.

She kind of just goes away to pout and figure out how she’s feeling and she discovers that maybe she’s in love with Nate and should tell him. Even though her best friend just admitted she loves Nate and he loves her back. So she writes a letter and leaves it for him in the glovebox of his car.

I’m kind of surprised that Serena wasn’t a fan of the party Erik had. I feel like she usually can make the best of every situation. Plus her leaving a guy that once loved her and running away sounds just like her but using him to distract her from Nate and Blair – seems again weird for her.

I guess she just doesn’t want to lose her friends again to their bubble and be third wheeling at Yale. At the same time just because your friends are telling each other they love you, that doesn’t mean you just think like “maybe I love Nate too”. Like we established that you guys would always be in each other’s lives but not romantically. So…yeah I see a flaw.

As for the lovebirds, they headed out early, ditching S on her birthday (kind of rude), in search of the Archibald boat. While they are on the road they decide to go for a pitstop and this is where Nate is reminded of the consequences of ditching the Coach.

He gets a voicemail and the Coach is not happy about him ditching or smoking weed on the job. Naturally. So does this mean that Nate won’t actually graduate? Not that he cares in the moment when he’s got the girl but it would be interesting if he didn’t.

Then there’s B who discovered Serena’s letter in the car. Yikes. I guess those two aren’t BFFs anymore. It’s never good to find a letter addressed to your on-again off-again boyfriend from your best friend telling him she loves him. So she does the rational thing and tears up the letter before Nate sees it and the wind carries it away.

At around this same time Serena has come to her senses and wants to take the letter back but sadly discovers that Nate and Blair have already gone.

And that is where we end it.

Again, nothing great to be honest. The Dan is gay thing was kind of funny though.

Also I never expected Vanessa to be the type to just give up her film making to be a babysitter? Plus I never believed she would also quite the fashion muse thing so quick but I guess it’s not the kind of film she likes to make.

As for this love triangle of Nate, Blair and Serena…well I would have preferred if Serena had stayed out of it haha. I mean I guess without her there’s no drama but realistically Blair and Nate would have found something else to fight over sooner or later.

But yeah, I guess we see where we go from here. I think the next book is technically the proper end to the series, with the next two books being add-ons after that so I’m interested to see where it ends. Like I said I had a feeling it would end once everyone got into college, which is why they stretched this summer out for two whole books, but I’m hoping summer ends in the next book because it’s kind of boring.

Before I gear up to read the last few books of the series I think I’ll take a break and read something else. It seems to be my pattern to read three Gossip Girl books and something else so, why break that now. But don’t worry, I’ll be back with our favourite Upper East Siders before you know it.

One Tree Hill Season 2 Thoughts

We are back with One Tree Hill and I have just finished season 2. I have to say a lot happened in this season, so much that I feel like I needed to stop watching for a while because I was overwhelmed just a bit haha.

Anyway, before we go into my thoughts for this season, let me checkout what my predictions for this season were and if I was close with any of them.

Okay well first thing is that I was wrong about Lucas and Keith staying away, technically Keith did move away later in the season but they both come back because of Dan’s heart attack.

Then we had Peyton and Brooke’s friendship, looks like it stayed pretty solid this season so hurray for that. My prediction wasn’t totally wrong about Peyton walking on eggshells with Brooke but it didn’t last long.

Next we have Nathan and Haley, and the show started off like they could handle anything as a married couple but as the season went on it kind of fell apart. Not surprised honestly.

Finally I predicted that Dan and Coach Whitey were both going to be fine, and they were! Though Coach kind of took a backseat this season as it was less about basketball and more about everything else.

Now that we have that out of the way it is time to dive into my thoughts on the whole of season 2:

  • So Lucas being away from town only lasted two minutes…cool
  • Dan is in the hospital and not dead so there’s a good sign?
  • Peyton and Brooke legit back to being friends but now Lucas hasn’t actually moved away it could cause trouble between the two
  • I can’t believe Haley’s parents let her marry Nathan, this still seems so bizarre to me. I don’t know if they make it last but like it’s so wild?
  • I guess it’s kind of cute everyone is accepting Nathan and Haley’s marriage but it’s still strange
  • Looks like Dan has a new outlook on life since his heart attack, I wonder if this continues
  • I feel like Deb’s life is falling apart and she just doesn’t know what to do :/ poor girl
  • Also Keith is sticking around to run things in Dan’s absence, let’s see how it goes
  • So Nathan is now working with Keith which is cute, I want more Nathan/Keith bonding moments
  • Dan leaves the hospital and tries to make good with Lucas but it doesn’t really work – no surprises there
  • Karen flirting with her professor is all kinds of red flags like I just don’t see it being good
  • I can’t believe Peyton almost took cocaine like damn guys that came out of nowhere, I’m glad she didn’t take it though
  • These little nothing fights between Nathan and Haley are kind of dull, I feel like they are trying to accent that yes, they will have problems but ultimately are perfect and together forever. Well I’m not super ready to jump onto this ship
  • Words can’t describe how annoying I find Felix…like can he move away already
  • That being said the dare episode was fun, Mouth doing karaoke is honestly the best thing ever and everyone should see it
  • I KNEW that girl who joined Lucas on his dares wasn’t a randomer – as the episode went on I pieced it together, wonder what trouble this will cause…
  • Oh wait so Peyton did take cocaine that one time…dang. I hope that doesn’t become a thing.
  • This whole Felix thing is annoying me so much. I just don’t like him and Brooke deserves someone that isn’t a dick.
  • Also Nathan can be real cute sometimes rejecting his dream to support Haley’s and doing all the formal stuff for her. He is precious.
  • Mouth also deserves better btw. Like being treated like crap by Felix. So rude. I want him to be with someone cute.
  • I don’t know what it is about Keith’s new girlfriend but there’s something shady about her and I cant quite figure it out…maybe it’s in my head but who knows
  • Looks like Deb and Dan have magically worked things out. Good for him for telling the truth though. I knew he would lie about his illness to get her back but he came clean.
  • Lucas and Anna, not really sure where that is going but it is clear that she and Felix have secrets and it’s only a matter of time before they come out
  • Oh so the secret was rumours about Anna being lesbian…I definitely thought there was more but okay
  • Plus someone save Peyton from herself plz
  • YASSSS JAKE. I’m so glad he back
  • Cant believe that music guy decided to kiss Haley. What a jerk
  • I can’t believe Haley almost ran away with him?!
  • Omg I knew Keith’s girlfriend was sketchy – it was a set up from Dan. Ugh.
  • So no one is going to tell Keith about his terrible girlfriend, this wedding is going to be a hot mess lol
  • Brooke had a job for five minutes and is now class president, sure
  • Peyton and Jake are playing house and it’s cute
  • Haley’s sister came in a stirred up trouble – but not anything more than what Haley stirred up for herself
  • Surprised that Haley just went off to do her thing and left Nathan – but I guess I understand why she did what she did. Still poor Nathan is a mess
  • I KNEW Lucas would have the disease, ugh I hope he is okay
  • So I guess Nathan and Haley couldn’t make it work?
  • Can’t believe Jake turned himself into the police. What a saint. I love him
  • And the coach runs away with Jenny I wonder what will happen with that
  • Wow Keith’s wedding was a disaster :/ poor guy. Ya’ll should have made better choices regarding him okay
  • I guess Dan will always be out for revenge I knew he was trash and I will always stand by that lol
  • Oh so Dan has another brother?
  • Hey dancing your problems away is a Grey’s Anatomy thing
  • Deb passed out in her garden in the morning is a mood
  • Yasss Mouth get it
  • Well Lucas almost died last season so let’s give nathan a turn
  • Lol it is too early for a what if episode
  • Or did they just reshoot the pilot with some lives swapped
  • Nathan wanting his family to come back together is cute but like they will always have problems
  • It’s sad he decided to sign annulment papers but also why does part of me think Dan just signed the papers anyway and went behind Nathan’s back because he would do that
  • Haley is pissing me off because she should have just gone back to town and been with Nathan regardless of what he said if she really loved him. Not to mention the fact she hasn’t even been calling Lucas to find out what’s going on?!
  • I’m sad Brooke found that stuff in Lucas’s boxes. She deserves happiness
  • So Haley is staying on the road and the marriage between her and Nathan is totally over :/
  • People love throwing stuff through Dan’s windows
  • Nicky took the baby :O I guess things with Jake will never work out. Poor guy
  • Of course Dan lied to Nathan about Deb’s addiction
  • And I guess that’s the end of Andy? Didn’t like him that much anyway tbh they’re relationship was just kind of meh
  • So Peyton’s mum is alive?!
  • Brooke is leaving for the summer and Lucas loves her so that’s fun
  • Yassss someone poisoned Dan – he deserves it
  • Yo and set fire to the office. So dramatic but I love it
  • Lucas left without a dad and a brother…that sucks – he was only trying to do the right thing 😦
  • Plus his mum just left to chase after Andy – OMG DID HE KILL DAN – I love jumping to conclusions but he went missing suspiciously quickly
  • Oh hi Haley!

This season was wild from start to finish haha. But now the only real question is where do we go from here? I imagine the show will deal with the summer before everyone joins senior year, and also tackle that final year of high school because it’s always big.

My predictions are that Brooke is possibly MIA for a while so they can film John Tucker Must Die because she was in that lol. Keith will come back (hopefully), Karen and Andy don’t work out because Andy knows she loves Keith. There is investigation into Dan and basically everyone looks guilty. People find out about Lucas having the disease because he needs medication. Nathan doesn’t want to listen to Haley but she is desperate to talk to him and figure things out. Can’t say for sure if they make it work but eventually they will find their way back.

If we are going my predictions the last time then these will probably all be wrong but I’m hopeful that some are right lol.

I guess I won’t know until I start watching again so I better go and prepare some snacks and buckle in.

You Season Two Thoughts

Hello You,

I have just finished watching season 2 of You and so I thought I would share my thoughts, similar to how I did for Grey’s Anatomy. I took bullet points while I was watching the show, so that is what I’m going to share.

However, I will probably add more to them since this was a quick thing and I just wanted to watch the show.

Also before we get into this I wanna say I have read both books the TV show is based on, so if you wanna know my thoughts on Hidden Bodies, the book this season was based on then feel free to check it out here.

Now onto my thoughts on the TV show:

  • Oh Joe, running away to LA because your ex you thought was dead showed up. Mood. But also it seems so random like I feel like the book did it better, I know Joe was trying to find a place Candace was never gonna find him but he literally could have gone anywhere, in the book he goes to LA to chase someone else.
  • I was so shocked to find Joe built a cage in LA but also kind of impressed. Don’t ever change man.
  • Wow in the first like five minutes of the show Joe is getting his finger cut off by a crazy guy, that’s fun.
  • Ooh Beck the ghost! I wonder how long this lasts.
  • Well that guy definitely needed to die because he was a psycho and would never have left Joe alone but what’s next for Joe and Will?
  • It is so creepy watching Joe grind up that dude omg.
  • Delilah got a huge upgrade from the books I mean she went from “Don’t fuck Delilah” to “Don’t fuck with Delilah” – you go girl.
  • I love that they needed to write in some way to kill Henderson to stay true to the books. At least in the TV show it seems like they tried to make out like Joe was being a good guy whereas in the books he kills him over some comedy sketch lol
  • Ooh Candace and Forty I see how it’s going to be. I knew we hadn’t seen the last of her.
  • Joe accidentally killing Henderson is hilarious like look at him trying to turn a new leaf but someone died anyway…Yikes.
  • Nice nod to the book with Candace using Amy’s name. I would have preferred if Amy had been in this one but I guess there’s a thrill of trying to figure out what Candace’s plan is with Joe.
  • Poor Candace having PTSD from Joe. Not surprised though I mean she was buried alive.
  • I “wolf” you. Seriously?! So much worse than that everythingship crap.
  • I’m so glad the Third Twin thing is just a reference and not Forty’s whole idea for a movie because I don’t think I could handle that crap again. It was so stupid.
  • Seeing Joe tied up like that was hilarious but I wish it had been Candace who did it and not that other woman.
  • I guess no one is going to find out about that first guy Joe killed? I mean I suppose no one really knew about him apart from Will.
  • So Candace just got paid off and went on her merry way? Okay then.
  • Ahhh enter Milo. Surprised Love is actually sleeping with him though didn’t think that would happen. Also surprised Forty hates him, I thought he loved him in the book.
  • Joe actually took a selfie so he can online date lol. Who is he?
  • Omg that whole cleanse thing too. LA has changed Joe forever.
  • I see that Love is not going to go through that whole oral issue she had in the book. Kind of sad about that though because I thought it would be hilarious. Though in the TV show she seems to be pretty kinky.
  • Ooh Joe and Delilah getting arrested for public indecency . That’s fun. Also they were kind of cute together.
  • I was wondering how they were going to kill Delilah but she finds out about Henderson. So he kills her and then that cop guy obviously – but what about Ellie?
  • Hey Joe fixed up that wall – nice.
  • WAIT he’s letting Delilah go?! Someone is really trying to turn a new leaf.
  • Forty drugging Joe is so wild. And I thought this was when Joe was going to attempt to kill Forty but I guess not.
  • DELILAH MURDERED – but who did it?
  • Omg her facial recognition worked? With her eyes closed?! Sketchy, mine doesn’t work sometimes when I have makeup on lol
  • Joe calling Will and him being totally chill about Joe having another person in the cage and possibly killing them is crazy but okay. We love a non-judging friend.
  • Hey Candace is back! Hi girl.
  • Ah she found Joe and Delilah! This is where Joe gets caught and goes to jail right?
  • I guess not she just calls Love instead. I know from the book that Love is okay with Joe being a killer and even helps him get rid of that mug of pee so this is fine. I mean in the book I was unsure if she was really in love with him or just saying it so she didn’t die but we’ll see where this goes.
  • OMG LOVE JUST KILLED CANDACE I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING.
  • Love also killed Delilah and that babysitter? Wow.
  • LOVE IS LIKE JOE I’M SCREAMING. She is not like she is in the book, she’s a killer, she wanted Joe from the beginning, she knew they were soulmates I kind of love it but was not expecting this oh my God.
  • Lol wait does Joe not like this?
  • WAIT IS JOE THE ONE WHO IS GOING TO PRETEND TO LOVE, LOVE
  • This is a turn of events, I did not expect Joe to recoil from Love, in the book, he is the one who is still head over heels in love with Love and would still do anything for her…this is weird.
  • I see that Forty has figured out that Joe is a killer and wants to free Dr Nicky. I can see why he is freaking out, if only he knew Love could be just as dangerous…
  • What is with Joe’s hair at this wedding it is so distracting haha
  • So Forty traps Love and Joe in Anavrin and wants to kill Joe. This took a huge turn.
  • Side note I think it’s nice that Joe wants to help Ellie. There is no Ellie in the books but I think it’s nice he thinks of her and wasn’t going to kill Delilah because of her. He always looks out for the kids, like Paco in the last season. I miss him.
  • SO THE COP KILLS FORTY? Unexpected. I mean I knew Forty died in the book but I couldn’t remember how. I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen on the TV show but it made sense because it was clear that Love and Joe could never be together properly with Forty in the way, at least how Joe saw it.
  • Plus I expected Joe to kill that cop because he killed him in the book lol.
  • And so it ends with Love, actually being pregnant, living in a lovely new home with the family she always wanted with Joe by her side.
  • Meanwhile Joe hates it and believes that he deserves this for all the horrible things he has done. He thinks this is his punishment, trapped with a psycho like Love because he wants his child to have a father.
  • But at the same time there’s a neighbour who he might have caught the sight of who he quite likes…

And here we are at the end!

This was a wild rollercoaster and the bullet points are way longer than I thought they would be but I knew I had a lot of things to say.

Overall the season was really good. I mean I already knew I was going to like it based on the book alone. I knew they would make changes though because that’s understandable but it’s interesting to see how they varied quite a bit from the book.

I was a little disappointed in the variations, mainly because they have changed Joe’s character from how he was. I wasn’t expecting him to recoil from Love and realise he was a terrible person. I feel like the TV show try and make you understand him and want to kind of root for him sometimes.

But I prefer that he is just bad and his thinking justifies all the wrongful actions. I guess I just prefer him be a straight up bad guy. Seeing him turn a leaf is not what I signed up for haha.

I also still can’t get over how extreme they made Love either, it doesn’t seem right but I am interested to see more of her and where it takes us. In the book I was questioning her love for Joe but in the TV show there is no question about it lol. So I wonder how raising a family will be.

But yeah, sadly there is no new book out yet so I can’t even use that as an indicator of how the next season will go. And yes, there will be another season because Penn Badgley told us lol. So I guess we have to wait. Though the book would definitely be different anyway because Joe actually went to jail.

I wanted that to happen to be honest, I was expecting him to go to jail. Surprised it didn’t happen. I know in the book he probably won’t stay in jail for long but even so, the TV show has taken a turn, where it will lead us I don’t know.

If I had to make predictions I would say that Joe pursues the neighbour, Love finds out and isn’t happy about it so maybe she tries to kill him? I say Joe makes an escape or kills Love and then…that’s kind of how far I get.

In the meantime I guess I go back to my other shows and books and patiently wait for more info, and also insert myself into every conversation about the show on Reddit because I can’t stop talking about it.
